LBC Radio Debate: ‘Should Muslim Police Women be allowed to wear the Burkha?’

On the 9th September 2016, it was reported that West Midlands Police Force (UK) would consider the option of allowing Muslim Police women to wear the ‘Burkha’. This generated some controversy, especially from right-wing news outlets. The radio broadcaster LBC, known for its right-wing views, caused additional stir, when one of its presenters, Andrew Pierce, made publicly strong remarks against West Midlands Police’s deliberations calling it “political correctness gone mad”.

Abdullah al Andalusi had an exchange with Andrew Pierce on whether a UK Police women, have a right to wear a face covering or not.

Abdullah comments “The issue here is purely of principle. It is not about whether devout Muslims should join the police or not. The only point I wanted to advance in this discussion, is that if you have rights in a society based upon one law, all people should be given the same rights by that law if that society truly esteems fairness and consistency with all its citizens. ”
