Another Muslim Debate Initiative video has gone viral in Malaysia, attracting more than 2.5 million views in just four days!

On Thursday 4th November 2010, the prestigious Cambridge University’s Cambridge Union Society (the oldest student society in the world (more info), held a controversial debate titled: “This House believes that Islam is a threat to the west”

The debate was highly controversial, being widely criticised by student organisations, for the inviting of Islamophobic speakers, such a Steven Gash, formerly of SIOE (Stop the Islamification of Europe). Others invited speakers included renown former Catholic priest, Idris Tawfik, and Muslim public speaker, Abdullah ul Andalusi of the Muslim Debate Initiative.

The debate was a resounding success, with the motion “This House believes that Islam is a threat to the West”, being resoundingly defeated in the audience vote. Additionally, the debate featured controversy, as Islamophobic speaker, Steven Gash, stormed out of the debate during Abdullah al Andalusi’s presentation and rebuttal to his points against Islam. Unfortunately, due to the debate video being in English, many non-english speakers around the world may not have been able to engage with the video.

Fortunately, a number of snippets of the opening speeches of Stephen Gash, and Abdullah al Andalusi’s rebuttal were collected, and have kindly translated and subtitled recently into Malaysian and shared by the Malaysian group Fakir Ilmu. The video has been shared and reposted by a number of Malaysia groups, and has gained 2.5 million views [1] in just four days [alongwith 36,400 facebook shares]!
