Is Islam an Arab faith?

Share

The religion of Islam is a universal religion for all of mankind, although the Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) was an Arab, he was a prophet for all of mankind, and not for the Arabs only.

The Quran makes this very clear when it says:

034.028
We have not sent thee but as a universal (Messenger) to men, giving them glad tidings, and warning them (against sin), but most men understand not.

The Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) himself also stated the following:

Every Prophet used to be sent to his nation only but I have been sent to all mankind. (Bukhari)

In his farewell speech, he also made the following remarks:

All mankind is from Adam and Eve, an Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; also a white has no superiority over a black nor a black has any superiority over a white - except by piety and good action. Learn that every Muslim is a brother to every Muslim and that the Muslims constitute one brotherhood. Nothing shall be legitimate to a Muslim which belongs to a fellow Muslim unless it was given freely and willingly. Do not therefore do injustice to yourselves. Remember one day you will meet Allah and answer your deeds. So beware: do not stray from the path of righteousness after I am gone.

So as the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) made clear, no specific race or ethnicity is better than another, Arabs are no better than none-Arabs, and vice versa, Arabs are not the chosen people.

Also if one were to look at the majority of Muslims, the majority of Muslims are not Arabs. The most populous Muslim nation is Indonesia, located in south East Asia. Followed by Indonesia is Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh.

Also if one were to study Islam, Islam accepts and mentions several prophets who were not Arabs, prophets such as Jesus (as), Moses (as), Isaac (as), Adam (as), Noah (as), and the list goes on. These prophets have a very high status within Islam, according to Islamic teachings, the 5 Major Prophets were Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad peace be upon them all. As you can see, out of the 5 Major Prophets, only one of them is an Arab, the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).

Even when it comes to women, Mary the mother of Jesus is regarded as one of the best women amongst all women, and she isn’t an Arab.

Now one would logically ask if Islam was an Arab faith, why does its main book praise several non-Arabs, Israelites to be more specific? Instead of this, you’d expect the Quran to mainly praise Arab figures and so on, but in the Quran, it’s mainly Israelites who are often praised, especially when you compare the praise of Israelite figures to that of Arabs.

So in conclusion, Islam is not an Arab faith, it is a faith for everyone, the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) according to the Quran, and according to his own statements, clearly stated that he was a universal message for all of mankind.
