Is Yahweh all knowing?

Share

According to the Bible we read:

The Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time. The Lord regretted that he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled. So the Lord said, “I will wipe from the face of the earth the human race I have created—and with them the animals, the birds and the creatures that move along the ground—for I regret that I have made them.” (Genesis 6:5-7)

The above passages from the book of Genesis pose a lot of problems, namely about Yahweh’s judgment and knowledge. One of the key attributes of God, is to be perfect in his knowledge and wisdom, he is all knowing. Yet the above verses actually reveal that Yahweh, does not possess perfect wisdom or knowledge, and that he is not all knowing.

When Yahweh created human beings, did he not know that they would sin? Did he not know that they would create mischief in the land? Did he expect them to be like angels? Well when reading the above passages, it’s quite clear that Yahweh did not know of what would become of his creation, namely that many of them would become bad and cause trouble on earth. Yahweh even becomes regretful for creating humankind, and decides to wipe them out to make up for ever creating them.

Compare and contrast this with the Quran, when God speaks of humans and their creation:

And [mention, O Muhammad], when your Lord said to the angels, "Indeed, I will make upon the earth a successive authority." They said, "Will You place upon it one who causes corruption therein and sheds blood, while we declare Your praise and sanctify You?" Allah said, "Indeed, I know that which you do not know." (2:30)

In the Quran God is fully aware of what the humans will do after he has created them, as the angels ask God, will he place a people who will cause corruption and trouble on earth? God in the Quran already knew they would do this, unlike Yahweh it seems, who became regretful once he saw the trouble and mischief humans began to cause while on earth.
